Dear broken sunflower
Dear broken sunflower
Do you ever feel tired
Of the unjust treatment you suffer?
Of the harsh winds that blow
Upon your beautiful petals?
Of the frosty nights
And the biting cold
And the rain’s relentless shower?
Do you ever just want to say to the sun
My dearest, loveliest sun
Long have I bathed in your light
Smiled upon the brightness of your face
Kissed the rays that give me heat
But life is just not kind
To a sunflower like me.
Then listen, dear sunflower
As the sun, your sun, replies,
My darling sunflower
Wilted and worn,
Can these petals live again?
Oh, sun, you say, only you know.
And the sun replies,
Was it not the rain that nourished your stem?
Was it not the frost that made you love my heat?
Was it not the wind that tickled your petals?
I will warm you again
The rain will nourish,
The frost will cease,
The winds will soothe.
Come now four winds and blow
Upon my flower who bears my name
That the light of my rays will once again
Give her life to share with the world.
This is so uplifting Gentleman Dave – such a beautiful way to start Sunday.
I am going to believe those petals will live again. I am sure the warmth of love will revive the sunflower in time. ❤

Relentless rain…harsh winds…frosty nights – they are all for a limited duration…but hard to endure.
Sun always returns and peace is restored. All will heal.

Thank you, Simone! The bitter was all I had at first. The sweet hope came later as a natural response… The sun loves his flower.

alas….the ephemeral, truly nature of flowers, yet arguably one of the most powerfully beautiful of God’s creations…such short lives. yes, only the good die young, it seems. :o) So well captured by you, their essence. You amaze me. 🙂

Thank you. This was written from a place of pain, but the hope that rises in its place was something that could not be missed.

Oops, my comment was supposed to read “…truly fragile nature of flowers…” hehe, sowwies, I left a word out! :)) I’m sorry this came from a place of pain…but you made something beautiful out of it, so that is admirable and remarkable! You’re clearly someone whose rivers run deep. I feel like I’m getting to know you better the more I read. ♥
